The International Year One (IY1) is the first stage of a three-year integrated degree and is studied over three terms before progressing to the university. It is ideal for international students who do not meet the University’s direct entry requirements. International Year One provides an intensive combination of first-year university subject modules with extra study and English language skills. Upon successful completion, you will continue to the second year of your chosen degree.

Course Overview
This course is an opportunity for you to start your engineering or computing degree with access to all of DMU’s cutting-edge facilities. On successful completion, you will continue on to the second year of your undergraduate degree course with DMU’s Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media.
DMUIC’s Engineering and Computing IY1 gives you the perfect opportunity to start your engineering or computing degree with access to all of DMU’s cutting-edge facilities.
Spend your first year gaining a broad understanding of all the key principles of engineering and computing as well as learning the study skills needed to make a smooth transition into your second year.
Study the way in which electronics and computing are used to control the behaviour of real-world systems such as cars, buildings and aeroplanes and use your creativity and problem-solving skills to solve challenges set by tutors.
Discover how design plays a crucial role in successful engineering projects and how to use Computer-Aided Design programs.
Upon successful completion of the Engineering or Computing First Year, students can then proceed to the second year of one of the DMU undergraduate courses listed below, according to the route they have chosen.

| The April intake International Year Zero (IYZ) 3-Term pathway does not follow the standard progression route. Students will study the International Year Zero (IYZ) from April to December, then progress to the International Year One (IY1) starting in January. Fees for the IY1 stage are not yet confirmed. These fees are expected to be in line with Oxford International pathway fees and will be confirmed closer to the start of the IY1 programme. All pathway fees are subject to annual review and may increase in line with policy, inflation, or regulatory changes. | |
