Course Overview

Medical imaging allows clinicians to see inside the human body without surgery, using technologies such as MRI, CT, ultrasound, and advanced digital imaging. These tools play a vital role in modern healthcare by supporting accurate diagnosis, early disease detection, treatment planning, and monitoring patient progress.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming medical imaging by analysing complex data and identifying patterns that are difficult for humans to detect. When combined with imaging, AI can enhance image quality, support clinical decision-making, reduce errors, and improve healthcare efficiency. On this course, you will learn how imaging science, advanced technology, and AI algorithms come together to solve real clinical problems.

You will study imaging techniques alongside computational methods and clinical applications, reflecting how innovation happens in real healthcare environments. Through hands-on labs, project-based learning, and real-world imaging workflows, you will develop practical skills in image analysis, AI-driven diagnostics, and the safe and ethical use of technology. Graduates are well prepared for careers in medical imaging, AI healthcare organisations, research, and the wider health technology sector.  A progression pathway to this degree is available from the September 2026 intake.
