Course Overview

You will be part of a unique and exciting programme, learning in brand new teaching facilities and in a wide range of clinical placements. Working alongside expert clinical and academic staff, you will have the opportunity to help shape your learning experience. You will receive excellent support to ensure you achieve both academic and professional success. On successful completion of the course you will be eligible to apply for registration as a Mental Health Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Your learning on the programme will be split between theory in the classroom and clinical practice in a range of placements and in the Clinical Simulation Centre (CSC). You’ll develop your theoretical knowledge through lectures, seminars, group work, guided independent study, online learning, reflective practice and a variety of assignments. You will be taught by expert staff and learn alongside nursing students and students from other health and care professions. You will gain practical skills and experience through a range of clinical placements, such as community mental health teams, inpatient mental health services, primary care (general practice) and private, voluntary and independent services. You will also undertake placements focusing on physical care. You will be supported, supervised and assessed during placements by both clinical and academic staff. You will also spend a significant amount of time learning in our state-of-the-art CSC. These brand new facilities include realistic community and in-hospital settings. Here you will safely practice clinical skills with other students, service users, carers, role players and hi-tech patient simulators under the guidance of experienced clinical and academic staff.
