This module prepares students for postgraduate study by developing English language and academic skills for master’s-level work. It builds on existing abilities through engagement with complex academic texts, summarising key ideas and understanding different text types and purposes. It focuses on understanding complex academic texts, using appropriate grammar and vocabulary, and applying critical thinking to evaluate sources and arguments. This module supports preparation for postgraduate study in Psychology by developing academic language and study skills. It introduces appropriate language use across different contexts, genre conventions in Psychology, teamwork, and effective preparation for presentations and examinations, while encouraging independent learning. The module develops your relevant language and study skills in order to prepare you to study business at masters level. You will look at a range of sources of business news including academic journals, newspaper and magazine articles, and company reports and in order to critically examine and discuss current business case studies. You will learn about brain anatomy, and how different areas of the brain affect human behaviour. You will explore the concept of the human mind and how different portions of the brain result in complex behaviours. This module explores personality, intelligence and individual differences, including key scientific approaches and basic assessment. It also examines social interaction and cultural influences on behaviour, while developing employability skills such as independent learning and critical evaluation.
