International Stage Two in Computer Science
Course Overview
The International Stage Two (IS2) in Computer Science provides the ideal preparation for achieving a Scottish degree with the University of Dundee’s respected School of Science and Engineering. You will develop your technical knowledge and practical skills in key areas such as programming, software development, data analysis and computer systems, gaining a strong foundation for advanced study and future employment in the technology sector.
The IS2 is equivalent to second-year level study of a typical four-year Scottish undergraduate degree. This programme offers an intensive combination of computing subjects alongside English, professional and academic skills, as well as digital and data literacy. Upon successful completion, you will progress to the final two years of your chosen Computer Science degree at the University of Dundee.
Alongside your academic studies, you will take one or two credited experiential and reflective learning modules designed to help you settle into life in Dundee, build your confidence, and make the most of your international student experience. These modules are a distinctive feature of this degree pathway, supporting your transition into advanced study and helping you connect your learning to the University and the wider community.
For students who have already completed equivalent higher-level study, elements of this module series may be recognised through academic review at the point of admission. This ensures your pathway aligns with your prior learning while maintaining a strong foundation for success.

Course modules
This academic literacies module highlights the importance of English language proficiency and core academic skills in higher education. It supports the development of English language and study skills needed for successful progression to the later stages of an undergraduate degree at the University of Dundee. nModule code: IC20001
This module introduces computer systems such as microprocessors, operating systems and their interrelationships. In addition to this, the module presents the basic concepts of computer architecture.
This module aims to give students an advanced understanding of computer’s hardware fundamentals and the principles of operations of computers and peripheral devices. In addition to this, the module aims to introduce C# programming and the essentials of modern computer architecture and operating systems.
This module explores the design of human–computer interfaces for users with a wide range of abilities. It covers user-centred design processes, human–computer interaction across different types of interfaces, and accessibility considerations for users of different abilities and age groups.
This module aims to introduce the advanced methods and designs of algorithms like time complexity and Big 0 notation. This module will help students to develop algorithms for specific problems and find solutions
This module develops programming skills in C and C++ through the study of essential data structures. It covers principles of procedural programming, reviews key object-oriented programming concepts, and introduces data structures such as stacks, queues, trees, graphs and hash tables. The content aligns with the Multi-paradigm Programming and Data Structures module offered in the School of Science and Engineering at the University of Dundee.
This module introduces key topics in software engineering and provides a foundation in software development. It builds experience and confidence in using a high-level programming language and covers areas such as users and requirements, data types and variables, objects and classes, design patterns and software testing, and professional ethics and practice.

Academic qualifications for Bahrain
Applicants must hold the General Secondary School Certificate with a minimum overall grade of 75%, plus satisfy one of the following: successful completion of one year of higher education, or a Technical Diploma with a minimum overall grade of 65%.
