Course Overview

Computer Systems Engineering brings together electronic engineering and computer science to develop the skills needed to design, build and manage modern computer-based systems. Accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in line with UK-SPEC standards, this degree provides a strong foundation in both hardware and software engineering. You will gain extensive practical experience designing networks, embedded microprocessors and integrated circuits, while developing analytical, programming and problem-solving skills valued across industry.

The course offers flexibility through optional modules in areas such as prototyping and fabrication, the Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning and signal processing, allowing you to tailor your studies to your career interests. Teaching is research-led and delivered by experts in areas including embedded and real-time systems, intelligent systems, databases and software engineering, with hands-on learning supported by a large specialist network laboratory. Graduates are well prepared for careers in computer and systems engineering, including roles in smart technologies, embedded systems and IoT, with opportunities to progress towards Chartered Engineer status through further study and professional experience.
