Course Overview

Anatomy is the study of the structure of the human body and the relationships between organs and tissues at both the whole-organ and microscopic levels. In the early stages of your degree, you will study modules in physiology, biochemistry, and related biomedical sciences, providing you with a strong foundation in life sciences.
As you progress, you will develop detailed knowledge of human anatomy from early development through to adulthood. You will gain hands-on experience through full-body dissection using Thiel-embalmed cadavers—an advanced preservation method that maintains flexibility and natural colour for a realistic learning experience. You will also complete an independent research project in a specialist area of interest.
The University of Dundee was the first in the UK to adopt the Thiel embalming system for teaching, and our staff are recognised as experts in human identification, forensic anthropology, craniofacial identification, and anatomy education.
