Course Overview

Focusing on financial economics, this MA programme combines core economic skills with current and fast evolving theories surrounding financial markets and institutions. You will build expertise in financial analysis, research, and forecasting while applying foundational economic principles to the financial sector.

The degree begins on the same pathway as our standard Economics course but allows you to specialise in the techniques of financial economics. As an MA, it is designed for students with a strong interest in arts and social science subjects, offering a broader contextual foundation in the early years.

Economists examine how societies use scarce resources to advise on improving decisions and outcomes. Traditionally, this involves investment, production, inflation, interest rates, and pricing. Today, economists also address critical policies on climate change, inequality, and healthcare. In this programme, you will apply this analytical framework specifically to finance.

Our standard Economics course focuses on macroeconomic challenges and microeconomic behaviour, providing a broad foundation for diverse careers. This Financial Economics MA, by contrast, offers a dedicated financial specialism within a flexible degree structure, preparing you for roles in banking, financial analysis, investment, and economic consultancy.
