Course Overview

This degree combines the study of history with French and Spanish, giving you the opportunity to explore different cultures, languages, and historical perspectives. You will examine social, cultural, and political history from the early modern period to the present day, with a particular focus on the British Isles, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and India. Using a wide range of sources, including archives, maps, artworks, films, and oral histories, you will develop the skills to analyse evidence and evaluate historical interpretations. Alongside your history studies, you will build proficiency in French and Spanish, whether you are a beginner or an experienced language learner. The course develops valuable skills in research, communication, critical thinking, and intercultural understanding that are highly valued by employers. Through access to the University’s archives and museum collections, as well as opportunities to work with original historical documents, you will gain practical experience that prepares you for careers in education, heritage, international organisations, diplomacy, journalism, publishing, and beyond.
