The International Foundation (IF) is a level 3 foundation year that is equivalent to A levels. During your programme, you will develop subject-specific knowledge and improve your academic English language skills in preparation for studying at university.

Course Overview
The International Foundation Programme in Business enables you to understand a range of areas. You will develop your knowledge in business, economics, statistics and data analysis which opens up a variety of career opportunities.
The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is a level 3 foundation year that is an equivalent qualification to A levels. During your programme you will develop subject-specific knowledge with a strong focus on improving your academic English language skills in preparation for studying at university.
During the IFP, you’ll gain additional skills in your chosen study route and the necessary English language skills to progress to year one of your chosen university degree course.

Course modules
Nothing is more important than clear and effective communication in making progress in your chosen field of study. High levels of class interaction ensure that you are encouraged and enabled to apply your developing language skills and grow your expertise in the context of your chosen subject of study. Through team-teaching on this module, both language and subject specialists join in supporting you and helping you grow in confidence to tackle future modules on the International Foundation Programme. English language skills and their development empower you to communicate more effectively in your subject studies. They enable you to listen for information, question the information you’ve received and engage in debates in an academic context, complying with conventions of tone and behaviour. You will learn to appreciate the importance of following good academic practice in all aspects of your work. How are different types of businesses structured for success in a contemporary environment? You will learn about different types of businesses and how they are managed and the importance of key functions within businesses such as strategic planning, finance, marketing and human resource management. You will explore key considerations for businesses wishing to operate successfully today, including their ethical stance, environmental awareness and sustainability.nnModule Code: KICS3010 / KICJ3010
How do governments determine their policies and assess the health of their own and the wider world economy? The macroanalysis they undertake has to take into account key indicators such as levels of inflation and unemployment, the balance of payments and terms of trade worldwide. Much has been made in recent decades about the drive for growth and subsequent national prosperity but this has to be tempered with concerns for the planet, and environmental and climatic factors. Governments in their decision-making have to be conscious of and juggle monetary, demand and supply-side policies to achieve the outcomes they are seeking, all of which you will discuss on this module. How does economics impinge on daily life and influence many of the decisions that we make? You will learn through this module about basic economic principles such as supply and demand, allocation of resources and the impact on pricing. You will see how the economy of the UK has developed over time and the impact of the role played by government particularly over the past two decades in response to global events such as the financial crisis and the global pandemic. How can mathematical techniques inform my work in other modules and how, in particular, can they aid me in my research by supporting a quantitative approach? You will have a refresher through this module in mathematical methods and notation. You will also have the opportunity to engage or re-engage with spreadsheets as an analytical tool.
