Course Overview
Politics and international studies examine how societies are governed, how global relationships are shaped and how political decisions influence communities at both national and international levels. The course combines political theory with real-world application, helping you understand contemporary global challenges.
Throughout the programme, you will develop valuable analytical and transferable skills, including:
- Understanding political ideologies, institutions and international developments
- Applying theory to real-world political and societal issues
- Building research, critical thinking and debate skills
These skills are highly valued across a range of sectors, supporting careers in government, research, international organisations and related fields, as well as progression to further study.
Work Placement Information
A work placement year is an optional part of your degree and is normally completed during your studies, before your final year. If you are interested in undertaking a placement, you should discuss this with your Course Director once you start your degree programme. Please note that you will need to apply for a visa extension and pay an additional placement year tuition fee. Details of placement year fees can be found on the Ulster University International Tuition Fees page.

Payment of Pathway Study Tuition Fees Your offer letter shows an initial fee that confirms your place on your chosen study preparation course and a link to Flywire so that you can make a secure payment. This initial fee is an instalment towards the overall cost of tuition fees for your study preparation course and includes a one-time non-refundable administration fee. After your CAS Letter has been issued, and before arrival or registration, you must pay your remaining first-year tuition fees in full.
