Course Overview
The programme enables progression to a range of computing and engineering degrees, with structured teaching, assessment, and comprehensive student support. It is aimed at students who do not have the educational background in their chosen subject and/or the English language requirements for direct entry to the first year of university.

All information given, and Offers in Principle issued, are subject to obtaining approval from UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). If UKVI approval is not received in time for the advertised intake, you will be notified within a reasonable timeframe, and your place will automatically be deferred to the next available intake. If you do not wish to defer to the next intake, you will have the option to request a refund of any fees paid.

Course modules
This module develops English and academic skills relevant for the specified degree. It builds the reading, listening, writing and speaking skills needed for academic study helping students participate effectively in lectures, seminars, group work and assessment tasks. The module also aims to develop confidence in English communication so students can take part in local and university-wide activities. (40 credits)
This module develops essential digital literacy and professional communication skills for success in higher education and future employment. It introduces the University’s policies on academic integrity and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ensures students have a clear understanding of ethical practices and transparency in their academic work. (20 credits)
This module provides a mathematical foundation essential for students pursuing computing and engineering disciplines. It is designed to develop core knowledge and build confidence in the application of a range of mathematical techniques. Through the integration of digital tools and a focus on clear communication, logical reasoning, and structured problem-solving, the module prepares students to analyse data, validate solutions, and apply mathematical thinking to a range of computing and engineering related contexts. (20 credits)
This module develops the practical and professional skills needed to plan, execute, and evaluate an applied project in a real-world context. It focuses on teamwork, communication, and organisation, using digital tools to support collaboration and task management. Students explore sustainability through global frameworks such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and consider ethical, social, and legal implications. By working within constraints like time, cost, and resources, they learn to define problems, propose solutions, and recognise limitations. The module also promotes reflection on personal performance and teamwork, supporting the development of professionalism and continuous improvement. (20 credits)
This module introduces the foundational principles of computer systems and programming, providing students with the knowledge and skills required for further study in computing. It explores the structure and organisation of hardware, operating systems, and data representation, alongside key concepts in computational thinking and algorithm design. Through hands-on experience with a high-level language such as Python, students learn to design, implement, test, and debug programs that meet given specifications. The module emphasises problem-solving, code readability, and the use of appropriate terminology, while developing confidence in working with core programming constructs, data structures, and simple data handling. By integrating these skills in practical tasks and a mini-project, students build a strong foundation for analysing problems and creating effective software solutions. (20 credits)
This module provides a foundation in core physics principles and their application to real-world problem solving. It develops students’ ability to define key scientific concepts and apply theories across mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves and optics, materials science, and thermodynamics. Through practical laboratory work, students will plan and carry out experiments safely, analyse data, and evaluate results, including the calculation of uncertainties. Overall, the module builds essential analytical, experimental, and mathematical skills required for further study in physics and related engineering disciplines. (20 credits)
