The International Foundation (IF) is a level 3 foundation year that is equivalent to A levels. During your programme, you will develop subject-specific knowledge and improve your academic English language skills in preparation for studying at university.
International Foundation Year in Computing and Creative Industries
Course Overview
In this course, you will be provided with a highly supportive and academically challenging environment in which to develop language, university study, and subject-specific modules related to your intended degree choices in the field of Computing and Creative Industries.
The International Foundation Year (IFY), during your programme, you will develop subject-specific knowledge with a strong focus on improving your academic English language skills in preparation for studying at university. You will study this course for one year and, after successful completion, receive a level 3 award and can then progress to year one of your chosen university degree course.
The IFY is a level 3 foundation year that is equivalent to qualification to A levels. Upon successful completion, you will continue to the first year of your chosen degree at the University of Bradford.
To join this course, you must have successfully completed high school or equivalent and meet the English language requirements. We offer additional English support as part of your pathway.

This module develops your English language and skills to a level (CEFR B2) that will enable you to engage successfully with an undergraduate course taught in English. Combining language input with skills development and practice, this module will increase your communicative competence (range, control and fluency), as well as your awareness of different conventions of academic discourse and practice. This module helps you to develop the academic and digital literacy skills you will need to engage successfully with undergraduate study at university. It helps you to understand what is expected in terms of independent study, critical thinking and academic integrity, and helps you to develop and practise a range of effective skills and strategies in support of academic research and production, with a particular focus on the use of ICT. The module provides you with an opportunity to bring together and apply the subject knowledge and academic skills you acquired and developed during the first two terms of your programme. You will do this by planning and completing a group research project on a topic of your choice and related to your chosen subject pathway. The module will develop your ability to work collaboratively in carrying out a research project, and it will require you to reflect on the advantages and disadvantages of using different research methods and tools. This module provides you with the core mathematical knowledge and skills you need to engage successfully with undergraduate study across a range of disciplines. Foundation-level topics covered include basic numbers, algebra, geometry, formulae, and statistics. The module develops your ability to solve mathematical problems, explores the real-world application of mathematical concepts and techniques and provides you with a practical introduction to the collection, collation, analysis and presentation of statistical data. This module introduces you to the different hardware components of a computer (including peripherals) and their relationship with the four basic elements of computing: input, storage, processing and output. It alsonprovides you with a practical introduction to the use of computer systems and software to develop new products and services with a particular focus on the creative industries. This module introduces you to the theory and practice of programming with a particular focus on the use of JavaScript. Building on learning from previous modules (Introduction to Computer Science, Foundation Maths),nthe module contains a strong practical element and helps you to acquire the core knowledge and basic programming skills that underpin a range of computer science degrees at undergraduate level.n (10 Credits) Module Code: BIC3021-A
This module introduces you to a range of digital media and software including Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML), which is used to create and add functionality to webpages, and JavaScript, another widely-used programming language. You will explore a range of contemporary issues relating to digital media and platforms and use the knowledge and skills you acquire to produce a portfolio of digital work related to your proposed degree programme. | The April intake International Year One (IY1) 3-Term pathway does not follow the standard progression route. Students will study the International Year One (IY1) from April to December, then progress to the International Year Two (IY2) starting in January. Fees for the IY2 stage are not yet confirmed. These fees are expected to be in line with Oxford International pathway fees and will be confirmed closer to the start of the IY2 programme.
