Course Overview

Explore the biological processes that underpin human health and disease while developing the practical laboratory skills used in modern biomedical science. You will study how diseases are diagnosed, investigated and treated, gaining research experience and the knowledge needed for a wide range of careers in healthcare and the life sciences.

Throughout the course, you will develop practical and professional skills, including:

  • Studying microbiology, genetics, immunology, blood science, cancer biology and pathology
  • Training in state-of-the-art laboratories and specialist cell culture facilities using industry-standard equipment
  • Conducting research projects alongside experts in dedicated research centres
  • Gaining valuable industry experience through an optional placement year in a healthcare, industrial or research setting

The course combines academic study with practical laboratory experience to prepare you for careers in biomedical science, healthcare, research and related fields. It is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), supporting progression towards registration as a biomedical scientist.
