Course Overview

Explore the role of physical education and school sport in promoting health, wellbeing and lifelong participation in physical activity. You will develop the knowledge, teaching skills and practical experience needed to support learners of all ages and encourage positive attitudes towards sport and exercise.

Throughout the course, you will develop practical and professional skills, including:

  • Learning effective teaching techniques for physical education and school sport
  • Exploring topics including sport science, sociology, philosophy and professional practice
  • Gaining practical experience through work placements in education and sport settings
  • Accessing specialist facilities, including Ponds Forge and the English Institute of Sport

The course combines academic study with practical experience to prepare you for careers in education, school sport, physical activity and health. It is endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) against its Tutor and Working with Children professional standards.
